Novo Nordisk Q3 results hinge on Wegovy pill as analysts eye a narrower decline

Jyske Bank expects Novo Nordisk to raise the floor of its 2026 outlook, and consensus puts third quarter Wegovy pill sales at 4.6 billion kroner. All figures are analyst estimates made before the release.

What's new

Ahead of Novo Nordisk's 4 November quarterly report, Jyske Bank said it expects the company to raise the floor of its 2026 outlook, which now allows declines of up to 6% in adjusted sales and operating profit.

Why it matters

Consensus puts Wegovy pill sales at 4.6 billion DKK for the quarter while Ozempic and injectable Wegovy are forecast to fall, so the tablet is the main test of whether Novo can slow its decline.

What's next

Novo's reported figures will be set against these estimates. Mexico's launch of the pill is scheduled for November 2026 and Australia's before Christmas.

COPENHAGEN. Novo Nordisk Q3 results are due on 4 November, and analysts are watching for a smaller decline rather than a return to growth. Danish lender Jyske Bank expects the company to raise the low end of its 2026 outlook, according to a preview by ad-hoc-news.de. Consensus puts the quarter's Wegovy pill revenue at 4.6 billion Danish kroner. These are analyst estimates, not company figures, and Novo had not published its results when this story was filed.

Novo Nordisk guidance floor may rise as sales shrink

Current Novo Nordisk guidance points to a fall of up to 6% in both adjusted sales and adjusted operating profit for 2026, measured at constant exchange rates, the preview reports. Jyske Bank thinks the company can lift those floors. The bank sees room for a sales decline of no worse than 3% and an operating profit decline of no worse than 4%. That forecast belongs to the bank. Novo has not announced any change to its outlook. If the company does narrow the range, the move would suggest that US price pressure is hurting less than Novo warned earlier. It would not mean growth. A narrower range still describes a business expected to sell less this year than last.

For the third quarter itself, Bloomberg consensus figures cited by the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet point to a 4% fall in revenue from a year earlier at constant exchange rates. Ozempic, the semaglutide brand Novo sells for type 2 diabetes, is forecast to drop by more than 10%, both against the same quarter of 2025 and against the second quarter of 2026. An Ozempic sales decline at that pace would leave the group more reliant on its obesity brands. The Novo Nordisk Q3 results will show whether the consensus was too gloomy or too hopeful. Until then, every figure in this story should be read as a forecast made by people outside the company.

Wegovy pill sales face a consensus test

The sharpest test this quarter sits with the oral form of Wegovy. Consensus puts third quarter Wegovy pill sales at 4.6 billion kroner, the preview reports, while Danish lender Sydbank projects a lower 4.25 billion kroner. The injectable version is expected to move the other way. Sydbank sees injectable Wegovy slipping 2% to 19.99 billion kroner, and a separate consensus estimate puts it at 19.9 billion kroner, down 2.1% from a year earlier. The preview links that softness to competition from Lilly's Zepbound and to lower US prices. Put simply, the tablet is forecast to grow while the older injection shrinks, and the open question is how much of the gap the pill can close.

A strong launch does not by itself return a company to growth. The pill is one product inside a large portfolio, and gains there can be offset by losses in Ozempic and injectable Wegovy. The preview makes the same point when it argues that a wider launch map means little if the revenue line does not follow. Readers should also be clear about what the 4.6 billion figure is. It is an average of analyst forecasts compiled before the release, not a target set by Novo. Early sales of a new drug can also be distorted by stocking, as Lilly argued when its own oral GLP 1 drug saw Foundayo sales miss forecasts in the third quarter.

Oral Wegovy launch reaches nine countries

The oral Wegovy launch now covers nine countries, including Germany, France and Spain, according to the preview. The United States, the largest market, followed the drug's US approval in December 2025 with a rollout at the start of 2026. Mexico is scheduled for November 2026. Australia has already approved the tablet, and Novo aims to make it available there before Christmas. Novo has said the staged pace reflects strong demand and the limits of its manufacturing capacity, the preview reports. That explanation matters for investors. A slow rollout caused by supply limits carries different risks than a slow rollout caused by weak uptake, and quarterly figures alone may not separate the two.

Morningstar analyst Karen Andersen sees the early US start as a real advantage for Novo, according to the preview. She also notes that the Wegovy pill produced better obesity outcomes than Lilly's Foundayo, which could help Novo build demand outside the United States. Her view has a second half. Andersen rates Foundayo ahead on ease of manufacturing and on the speed of its international rollout, so the US lead is not a permanent shield. Spain shows the access problem, the preview says, because an official launch does not guarantee lasting demand. The preview does not say which trial data support the comparison of obesity outcomes, so readers should treat that point as an analyst's judgment rather than a tested result.

Novo Nordisk share buyback runs on schedule

Capital returns continue in the run up to the Novo Nordisk Q3 results. The company said it bought back about 1.44 million B shares for roughly 377 million kroner in its latest reporting window, which began on 26 October, the preview reports. Purchases since 4 February total 11.564 billion kroner. The current twelve month programme allows up to 15 billion kroner, so about 77% of the ceiling has been used and roughly 3.4 billion kroner remains. The Novo Nordisk share buyback is an existing programme, not a new step. Buybacks return cash to shareholders, but they do not change how many patients take Novo's medicines or the prices those medicines command in the US and other markets.

Several things are not yet known. Novo had not released its quarterly figures when this story was filed, so none of the estimates above have been checked against reported sales. It is also unclear whether Novo will change its outlook at all, since the Jyske Bank view is a forecast and not a signal from the company. After the release, the next markers are the Mexico launch in November and the Australian rollout planned before Christmas. Novo will also present obesity research at ObesityWeek in Washington from 14 to 17 November, as set out in its ObesityWeek abstract slate. Peptide Zone will set the Novo Nordisk Q3 results against these estimates once they are public.

Conclusion

The Novo Nordisk Q3 results will show whether the Wegovy pill can carry more of the load as Ozempic and injectable Wegovy weaken. Analysts expect a 4.6 billion kroner quarter for the tablet and a narrower full year decline, but both are forecasts from banks and consensus surveys, not company statements. Even the best case described in the preview is a smaller fall in sales, not a return to growth. This story is for research and information only and is not investment or medical advice.
